I am an experienced Relationship and Psychosexual Therapist working from my comfortable therapy office in central Edinburgh (Young Street) and from my home office in Portobello.
Prior to establishing my private practice, I worked for the Relationships Scotland Counselling Service. Additionally, I practised as a Psychosexual Therapist within the NHS, seeing patients within a specialist Sexual Health Clinic. I have served on the Accreditation and Validation Panel of Relationships Scotland since 2014.
In my earlier career I trained and practised as a lawyer, and thereafter worked as a director of an executive search company (currently a non-executive director).
My style of practice is integrative. Psychological therapies generally fall into three categories. These are:
By working in an integrative way, I ensure that all of these techniques are incorporated in the most effective way for each individual.
I am warm, friendly and passionate about supporting my clients through the wide range of challenges that life brings to us all.
I hold full professional liability insurance and, as a member of the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT), I work strictly within their ethical code of practice. This means that I receive regular supervision with a COSRT-approved supervisor and am also committed to regular training and peer group support as a part of my continuing professional development.
Relationship issues can sometimes impact upon our wider lives, especially families and children. On occasion, I consult with Dr Nick Child, BSc MB ChB MRCPsych MPhil, a retired child psychiatrist and family therapist with extensive professional experience in this area.
Where a relationship is under strain, issues of family law may arise. In these situations I sometimes seek informal advice from Alasdair Loudon. Alasdair was for many years Head of Family Law at a major Edinburgh firm and, having recently retired from full time practice, is now a Consultant. Throughout his professional life Alasdair has enjoyed a reputation for seeking to resolve family law issues on amicable terms.
Full client anonymity and confidentiality are, of course, maintained at all times.
